I created this report in April 2024 breaking down the risks and returns of the top 75% of the S&P 500 by weight, which was comprised of the largest 121 companies in the index. (There were actually 122 total holdings in the top 75% weight of the S&P 500 but one of the holdings was the U.S. Dollar with a weight of 0.34%). This meant that as of April 4, 2023 24.1% of the 503 companies in the entire index accounted for 75% of weight of the index.

Further, the top 10 largest holdings accounted for 32.5% of the index by weight. The weight of the top 10 holdings increased 8.6% from the January 2023 report.

In each report, I break down specific parameters that are used to further analyze the companies in the 75% weight of the S&P 500. Using these parameters, I come up with “The List” of the companies that have truly shown strong risk-adjusted return during the time period accessed. Out of the 121 companies analyzed for this report over a 5 year time period, only a 14.9% made The List as of April 2024. The purpose of this report is to be an initial stock screener for those looking at large cap equities.
